Stay Tuned...Events are coming

December is a slow month for food events if you haven't noticed. Making matters worse is that I accidentally missed last Sunday's Jewish/Italian culinary discussion. OK, I'll fess up. I completely forgot about it. Whoops!

Fortunately, I found out via twitter that Julie Powell is scheduled to read some juicy bits from her new book "Cleaving" tomorrow at uber hip Brooklyn butcher shop the Meat Hook. Tom Mylan, who runs The Meat Hook is featured in Julie's book. Who else do you think taught her the down and dirty butcher skills she has?

I'm also checking out Matt Timms' Cookie Takedown on Sunday.

For any fellow Brooklyn readers - I highly recommend the green chorizo sausage at The Meat Hook. I tried it last weekend and it was mighty fine. It's the peppers that make 'em green, but it's not spicy. Just rich in flavor.

So in short, stay turned fearless readers. I will have more to post on soon!

  1. Howdy! I'll be interested to hear your take on the book, Nora. I'm still thinking about Julie & Julia. Frankly, I wasn't all that impressed. Funny in some places, and I especially enjoyed the foodie bits, but it was also downright icky what with all the cat hair and maggots (oops, spoiler alert!) and whiny self-loathing. And what's the message? Food saves? Well, that's helpful. It's more likely, Blogging Saves, since that's what really got her notoriety. What will Cleaving tell us? Early reviews are poor; she's more self-loathsome than ever, apparently, cheating on her husband repeatedly but cleaving to him for her own gain. Blech.
